The Ball was held in the Angel Hotel on Wednesday last, when a most distinguished company assembled to do honour to the occasion. The ball-room was tastefully decorated and looked as well as an arrangement of evergreens and bright coloured bannerets could make it. The evergreens were arranged in wreaths and festooned around the walls, which were also decorated with small groups of red and white banners bearing the Abergavenny Arms, the fleur de lis. The company began to arrive at about 9 o'clock and arrivals were frequent up to about 1 o'clock when the number was 86. Shortly after I o'clock there was an adjournment to the supper room, which was a triumph of art, may we say equally from an aesthetic and a gastronomic point of view. As in the ball-room, so here, where bright mirrors, which with vivid colours of the bannerets gave light and life to the walls; while viands of first quality, prepared in a most appetising arrangement,amid a profusion of good glass, and silver, so conducive to the proper enjoyment of a ball supper, left nothing to be desired, excepting, perhaps, a good appetite. Mr. and Mrs. Prichard are to be congratulated upon the success of the whole affair. Sewells’ excellent band found a brief rest after the 9th dance. Active operations were resumed before 2 o'clock to the strains of the charming waltz 'Sweethearts'. By half-past four the ballroom was cleared and the Monmouthshire County Ball was over.
